Inquisition und Indexkongregation in der Sammlung âEditti e Bandiâ der Biblioteca Casanatense (16.-18. Jahrhundert)

Die Dekrete, Bandi und Edikte, die von den Kongregationen des Heiligen Offiziums und des Index sowie auch von dem Vorstehenden des Santo Palazzo in Druck gegeben wurden, sind eine Quelle von hÃ¶chster Wichtigkeit fÃ¼r die Rekonstruktion der Geschichte der rÃ¶mischen Institutionen, die mit der inquisitorischen Kontrolle und der Buchzensur betraut waren. Von hoher Bedeutung ist hierbei die in der Biblioteca Casanatense in Rom aufbewahrte SammÂlung, die im Jahre 1701 auf GeheiÃ des Kardinalinquisitors Girolamo Casanate gegrÃ¼ndet wurde und die von ihm der Verwaltung der hÃ¶chsten RÃ¤nge des Dominikanerordens Ã¼bertragen wurde. In Achtung des testamentarischen WilÂlens des Kardinals standen die Bibliothekare und Theologen der Casanatense fast zwei Jahrhunderte lang in enger Zusammenarbeit mit dem Heiligen OffiÂzium und dem Index, in erster Linie durch die Ãbersendung von hunderten verdachtigen BÃ¼chern. Diese gemeinschaftliche âVerteidigung des katholischen Glaubensâ ist umfangreich im Historischen Archiv der Bibliothek sowie im ACDF dokumentiert.

I decreti, bandi e editti dati alle stampe dalle Congregazioni del SantâUffizio e dellâIndice, nonchÃ© dal Maestro del Sacro Palazzo rappresentano una fonte di primaria importanza per la ricostruzione della storia stessa delle istituzioni romane preposte al controllo inquisitoriale e alla censura libraria. Significativa in tal senso Ã¨ la raccolta conservata nella Biblioteca Casanatense di Roma, fondata nel 1701 su volere di un cardinale inquisitore, Girolamo Casanate e da lui affidata alla amministrazione delle piÃ¹ alte cariche dellâOrdine dei Predicatori. Nel rispetto delle volontÃ testamentaire del Cardinale, i bibliotecari e teologi della Casanatense agirono per quasi due secoli in stretta collaborazione con il SantâUffizio e lâIndice, in primo luogo attraverso la trasmissione di cenÂtinaia di libri sospetti. Di tale comune âdifesa della Cattolica Fedeâ vi Ã¨ ampia documentazione sia presso lâArchivio Storico della Biblioteca sia presso lâACDF.

The decrees, bandi and edicts given to print by the Congregations of the Holy Office and of the Index as well as by the Master of the Holy Palace represent a source of primary importance for the reconstruction of the history of the Roman Institutions assigned with the inquisitorial control and book censorship. In this respect, the collection kept in the Biblioteca Casanatense is of outermost importance. The library was founded in 1701 at the behest of a cardinal inquisitor, Girolamo Casanate, who entrusted its administration to the highest ranks within the Dominican fraternity. Respecting the testamentary will of the Cardinal, the librarians and theologians of the Casanatense tightly collaborated with the Holy Office and the Congregation of the Index for as much as two centuries, in first line via the transmission of hundreds of suspicious books. The collective âdefence of the Catholic Faithâ is amply documented in the HiÂstorical Archive of the Library and the ACDF.
