Anmerkungen zur Bibliographie der rÃ¶mischen Buchzensur (1814-1917)

Die bibliographische Recherche zur Buchzensur musste nach Ãffnung der Archive der RÃ¶mischen Inquisition und Indexkongregation (1998) nicht mehr ausschlieÃlich am Endpunkt des Verbotsverfahrens, das heiÃt den generalisierten gedruckten Indices ansetzen. Seither besteht die MÃ¶glichkeit zum direkten Zugriff auf die Prozessakten selbst. Allerdings sind die Hinweise auf die IdentitÃ¤t eines inkriminierten Werkes nicht immer prÃ¤zise. FÃ¤lle wie der Katechismus der Christkatholischen Religion zeigen, wie es erst durch die Kombination der in den Quellen verstreut aufgefundenen Informationen gelang, die verhandelten Ausgaben zu bestimmen. Durch die aus der Auswertung der Archive gewonnene Bibliographie werden nunmehr nicht nur die tatsÃ¤chlich verbotenen, sondern auch die nur geprÃ¼ften, letztlich aber nicht beanstandeten Werke erfasst, welche aus Bandi und Indices bislang nicht erschlossen werden konnten.

Dopo lâapertura degli archivi dellâInquisizione Romana e della Congregazione dellâIndice la ricerca bibliografica sulla censura libraria (1998) non ha piÃ¹ dovuto accostarsi al momento finale del processo di proibizione, cioÃ¨ ai generalizzati indici a stampa. Da allora ci si puÃ² servire direttamente degli stessi atti processuali. Tuttavia le indicazioni sullâidentitÃ delle opere incriminate non sono sempre precise. Casi come quello del Katechismus der Christkatholischen Religion dimostrano che si Ã¨ riuscito a determinare le opere trattate solo tramite la combinazione di informazioni trovate sparse nelle varie fonti. Con lâaiuto della bibliografia ricavata dal ricorso agli archivi sono state oramai analizzate non solo le opere effettivamente proibite, ma anche quelle che furono solo esaminate, sebbene non contestante, le quali non si erano ancora potute desumere da bandi e indici.

After the opening of the archives of Roman Inquisition and Index Congregation in 1998, the activities of bibliographical research were no longer exclusively dependent on the final point of the process of book prohibition, that is, on the generalised and printed indexes. Ever since that time there is the possibility of directly accessing the files of legal proceedings. However, the indications regarding the identity of an incriminated work are not always precise. Cases like the Katechismus der christkatholischen Religion demonstrate that the identification of a specific edition was only possible by combining various information scattered on a variety of sources. Thus, the bibliography that results from the research in the archives contains, in addition to all prohibited books, as well those which have been examined without any further consequence. Precise information about the latter could not be found in the bandi or in the indexes.
