âDer Papst macht Reklameâ?: Die Edition der Bandi des 19. Jahrhunderts (1814-1917)

Jedes Urteil bedarf der Publikation, um RechtsgÃ¼ltigkeit zu erhalten. Von die-ser Regel sind auch die BÃ¼cherverbote durch Inquisition und Indexkongregation nicht ausgenommen. Diese wurden allerdings nicht in Form von AmtsblÃ¤ttern oder Ã¤hnlichem vorgenommen, sondern innerhalb des Kirchenstaates und der Stadt Rom durch den Aushang von groÃformatigen Plakaten, den so genannten Bandi. Indem diese Bandi als primÃ¤re Quelle zugÃ¤nglich gemacht werden, zeichnen sich auf den ersten Blick bisher mÃ¼hsam zu rekonstruierende Kontexte der rÃ¶mischen Buchzensur ab. So ist der nicht zu unterschÃ¤tzende Verbotskontext jedes einzelnen Bando zu nennen. DarÃ¼ber hinaus dokumentieren die Bandi als Gesamt den Umgang von Inquisition und Indexkongregation mit zeitgenÃ¶ssischen WissensstrÃ¶mungen und reflektieren dadurch in gewisser Weise den kulturgeschichtlichen, wissenschaftlichen und theologischen Kontext. Neben der Einordnung in den Verbotskontext bietet die vorgelegte Edition im kritischen Apparat zu jedem Bando Nachweise und Varianten im ACDF, und zu jedem verbotenen Buch einen bibliographischen Nachweis modernen Standards.

Per ogni sentenza ci vuole una pubblicazione per ottenerne la validitÃ . Questa regola vale anche per le proibizioni librarie effettuate dallâInquisizione e dalla Congregazione dellâIndice. Queste, perÃ², non venivano pubblicate tramite bollettini ufficiali o altri mezzi simili, ma a mezzo di grandi affissi esposti allâinterno dello Stato Ecclesiastico e della CittÃ di Roma, i cosiddetti Bandi. Nel rendere accessibili questi Bandi come fonti primarie di documentazione, si rivelano contesti della censura libraria Romana che finora, al primo sguardo, erano difficili da ricostruire. Si deve cosÃ¬ menzionare la situazione specifica di proibizione, da non sottovalutare, di ogni bando. Oltre a ciÃ², i bandi nel loro complesso documentano lâatteggiamento dellâInquisizione e della Congregazione dellâIndice verso certe correnti e in un certo modo riflettono il contesto culturale, scientifico e teologico. Oltre allâinquadramento nel contesto del divieto lâedizione presentata nellâapparato critico offre referenze e varianti nellâACDF per ogni bando come anche una referenza bibliografica per ogni libro censurato secondo gli standard moderni.

Every judgement needs to be published in order to assure its legal force. This principle is also fundamental for the prohibition of books by the Inquisition and Index Congregation. This procedure, however, was not carried out by official gazzettes or similar publications within the Papal State and Rome, but by huge-scale posters, the so-called bandi. The access to these bandi as primary sources allows us to understand various contexts of Roman book censorship that previously have been difficult to reconstruct. This is particularly the case in the important context of prohibition contained in each bando. Moreover, the bandi as a whole reveal how Inquisition and Index Congregation have dealt with existing tendencies of knowledge, thereby reflecting cultural, scientific and theological contexts. Among the possibility to analyse the context of book prohibition, the Edited Bandi Collection offers in its critical apparatus indications of the finding places and variations of each bando as well as a bibliographical reference for each prohibited book.
