Abstract

This chapter begins by outlining a paradox in Dead Sea Scrolls research. On the one hand, scholars have long recognized and emphasized that the ?Bible' did not exist at the period attested by the Scrolls. Recent Psalms scholarship has devoted a great deal of attention to the study of the shape and shaping of the Psalter as a whole. The chapter offers some tentative reflections on a passage found in Ps. 1.2, Josh. 1.8, and the Community Rule from Qumran. A prominent voice in the search for the shape of the Psalter was the monograph by Gerald Wilson in which he highlights the promise of scrutinizing ?the "seams" between the collections where editorial activity should be most evident' (Wilson 1985: 5).
