Abstract

Entrepreneurship Education is one of the top priorities that higher education can use to achieve sustainable development goals in both developing and developed countries. Research shows that higher education can use Entrepreneurship Education to develop skills that combat high rates of unemployment among youth upon graduation. Despite this, Entrepreneurship Education is not given much weight by lecturers in higher education. The chapter assesses the impact of Entrepreneurship Education in higher education towards sustainable development, focusing on impact and strategies that can be used to develop employability skills. The chapter adapted integrative literature review, commenced with problem identification using titles, abstracts and terms “Entrepreneurship Education” and “sustainable development” full text sampled between 2013–2023 as selection criteria for inclusion and exclusion. The included studies were summarized using common themes. The findings of the chapter identified ten themes that were found impacting skill development through Entrepreneurship Education in higher education. Those themes are economic generation and expansion; critical thinking and creativity; exposure to innovative opportunities; top-down model of training; use of traditional methods; the use of exam-oriented curriculum; ineffective teacher preparation; professional competence; pedagogical content knowledge, massive content and lack of professional development. The chapter also suggested strategies that can be used to achieve the sustainable development goals through Entrepreneurship Education. The chapter concludes that when all stakeholders play their respective roles in the design and implementation, Entrepreneurship Education is eligible of producing enough entrepreneurs who can pull these countries out of high unemployment rates while increasing their economy.
