Abstract

This chapter focuses on the staff who worked in the court and who were the contact point between the citizens, who came to ask for their rights in divorce cases, and the state. It argues that these state officials created human bridges between the neighbourhood, and its social expectations and ethics, and the law, drawing these social norms into legal practice as the law is interpreted. It also describes how the staffsâ attitudes to divorce shaped litigantsâ experiences entering the court.
