Abstract

In this chapter, I utilize autoethnography as a qualitative research method to explore the intersections between personal and social identities and the connection to leadership development. The data set includes personal reflections and external textual artifacts collected over the years that have impacted my leadership identity. Through this process, I gain insights into redefining my identity, the influence of the social context, the impact of my leadership style, and strategies for growth. I share my leadership identity development journey organized into five categories based on critical incidents in my life. These incidents involve identity tensions and the search for a unique sense of self while desiring acceptance from others. The data analysis reveals how the social context shapes my personal growth and leadership development. This autoethnographic journey prompts self-reflection, understanding the past, and envisioning a future of continued growth and development as a leader. I aim to inspire readers to embark on their journey of self-discovery and embrace their purpose as leaders.
