Abstract

This autoethnography critically examines and explores the challenges of performing leadership and developing a leadership identity while negotiating challenges along a leadership pathway in the TESOL field. A critical feminist conception of power as expressed through the practices of resistance to, empowerment of, and solidarity with provides a theoretical model for interpreting lived experiences of performing leadership in higher education. Using a critical autoethnography, I reflect on my own lived experiences as a TESOL leader within Canadian higher education institutions. Through a theorization of power, I also examine the negotiation of my own professional identity development.
