Abstract

An authority on the human mind and the theorist of multiple intelligences, the author reflects on his synthesizing mind – how it developed from childhood, and how it has evolved over the decades – and provides pointers for those who seek to master the art of synthesis. In this chapter the author reflects on his intellectual development and his groundbreaking work, tracing his evolution from bookish child to eager college student to disengaged graduate student to Harvard professor. He addresses the following areas: synthesis from beyond history, connections and synthesis, syntheses about human populations, and the contribution of other voices to a synthesizing mind.
