A traumatic event can have a long-lasting effect on an individual’s overall growth and development. Because individuals exposed to trauma may be impacted in different ways, and trauma may manifest in different forms, there is a continuous need to learn from professionals from different fields and with an array of experiences related to trauma.
This chapter highlights the individual perspectives of two professors training professionals working in fields exposed to individuals that have experienced or are currently exposed too or experiencing trauma in their lives. The overall goal of the chapter is to consider how these personal insights and reflections can help readers consider how different perspectives and lenses may inform overall practice. Empathy, a common link between both professionals, is also discussed.
The chapter calls upon readers to consider their own personal insights and reflections in order to reflect upon different lenses that can inform decisions of practice.
