This chapter documents the development and use of upper and lower bound arguments by students as they worked on fraction comparison tasks using Cuisenaire rods to build models. These arguments were developed as students tried to find larger and smaller models for solutions to tasks using Cuisenaire rods. These arguments were then taken up by others and reused in different problem contexts.
