The house fly colonizes and consumes plant and animal waste resulting in the production of an alternate protein source for use as livestock, poultry, and aquaculture feed. While historically this species has been viewed as a pest of human society, today, it is viewed a key model for insect farming in many nations throughout the world. This chapter provides a general overview of the biology of the house fly along with an assessment of its nutritional composition, use as feed, and production methodologies.
