Abstract

Studies concerned with socio-political activism, development, and education leadership of marginalised and minoritised peoples in Peru, especially Afro-descendants, remain limited. The present chapter examines how one urban-based Afro-Peruvian organisation – LUNDU: Centro de Estudios y Promoción Afroperuanos – confronted intersecting forms of oppression and racism through an anti-racism campaign known as Apúntate Contra el Racismo (ACR). The study highlights the critical need to centre the proposals and initiatives led by civil society groups in countering oppressive societal and state practices. Particular attention is granted to the role played by racialised, specifically Black women, and to their capacity to leverage diverse platforms through activist public pedagogies.
