Abstract

This contribution is dedicated to medico-botanical bilingual (mostly Arabic-Romance) glossaries and multilingual synonym lists written in Hebrew letters. A considerable number of such glossaries and lists is documented from the 13th to the 15th century in the Romance-speaking territories of Europe. Most of them were produced in the Occitan and Catalan language areas, whereas glossaries and synonym lists with Castilian terms are fairly uncommon. With some rare exceptions, the latter have not been considered in philological studies. The aim of this contribution is to present all known glossaries and synonym lists—four in total—that contain Castilian elements. They are analysed and compared in view of their macro- and microstructures, the languages they contain apart from Castilian (i.e., Arabic, Catalan, Latin, and Mozarabic), and, due to frequent recurrent entries, the possible relationships between them.
