Abstract

In this chapter a new lexicographical tool is presented: the Diccionario del espaÃ±ol medieval electrÃ³nico (DEMel), a project of the Universities Paderborn and Rostock. Accessible since mid-February 2022 (https://demel.uni-rostock.de), it offers more than 33,000 lemmata and approximately 1 million documented forms of Old Spanish. As such, it also serves as an important aid for exploring the medieval language of Sepharad I (the period before the expulsion of the Iberian Jews). It can be reasonably assumed that with the digitalization of the DEM (DEMel) and that of the Nuevo Diccionario HistÃ³rico de la lengua espaÃ±ola (NDHE), and the publication of other lexicographical sources, we will have additional tools for investigating the history of the Judeo-Spanish vocabulary, at least, as far as it is of Romance stock.
