Abstract

Through a university-community partnership, students at a Southeast Central university met once a week for a clinical writing methods course at an elementary school. The writing methods course is one of their first classes in the teacher preparation program and afforded students the opportunity to develop a one-on-one teaching relationship with students in a second-grade classroom. University students supported second-grade students in creating digital stories and recorded observational data through the semester, later discussing these observations with classmates. This chapter uses discourse analysis as an analytic tool to uncover how preservice teachers initially position children as objects of affection to powerful writers and its implications for future clinical method partnerships.
