Abstract

The author of this article compares Andrzej Falkiewiczâs theory of culture as a homeostatic-azimuthing system, combined with the concept of an individual horizon and valuation, with Nowakâs theory of spiritual momentum (spiritual production) in non-Marxian historical materialism. Falkiewiczâs theory was created in response to Nowakâs model, and it contains a critical part aimed at solving the problems which Falkiewicz believes were not been solved in Nowakâs model. After a summary presentation of the theory of spiritual momentum in Nowakâs non-Marxian historical materialism and of Andrzej Klawiterâs, Piotr Buczkowkiâs and Krzysztof NiedÅºwiadekâs developments of that theory, as well as of Falkiewiczâs theory of culture, the author of this article indicates that the nature of spiritual production in the latter concept, unlike in the former, is solidaristic and not antagonistic. Both approaches, though, emphasize the stricte material nature of spiritual production. In the summary, further possible directions of research are indicated, including the possibility of trying to synthesize the discussed approaches.
