Abstract1

The aim of the paper is to characterize Nowak’s non-Marxian historical materialism at the methodological and theoretical level. According to the author, the main features of Nowak’s theory is its openness and lack of a final stage in the historical process. In the second part of this paper, non-Marxian historical materialism is compared with analytical Marxism and the applicability of Nowak’s theory to the history of Poland is discussed (specifically, the period of early feudalism).
