Abstract

The paper is an attempt to juxtapose the research results achieved by Polish and Anglo-Saxon analytical Marxism in regard to the evolution of late capitalism. Two theories are compared: Leszek Nowak’s non-Marxian historical materialism and Adam Przeworski’s concept of class compromise. On the base of the first theory, the hypothesis of the totalitarization of capitalism was put forward, being the transformation of the capitalist class system into a supra-class system where the class of owners was merged with the class of rulers. The second concept presents a different vision of the evolution of capitalist society, namely the stabilization of economic social relations through institutional support of the class of direct producers’ interests. This hypothesis – according to author – is supported by better empirical evidence. It the last part of the paper, a modification of Nowak’s model of capitalist society is proposed. This improvement should take into account the factors involved in making a group-decision which are differentia specifica of the Anglo-Saxon kind of analytical Marxism.
