Three consecutive crops of malting barley grown on clay-loam on one Swedish farm (59Â°74â N, 17Â°00â E) were monitored. GPS positioned unfertilised plots were established and used for soil sampling. Measurements were made of canopy reflectance and the crop was sampled for above ground dry matter and nitrogen. At harvest, plots of 0.25 m² were cut in both fertilised and unfertilised barley. Plots of 24 m² were also harvested from fertilised barley. Using the vegetation index TCARI/OSAVI, a thermal stress index and electrical conductivity of the soil, it was possible to make a good PLS prediction model for kernel yield and protein.
