The adoption of AI systems in German viticulture is crucial to improve sustainability and address labour shortages, but research on the impact of transparency on trust and adoption of AI systems is still in its early stages. A preliminary study was conducted with 37 participants, divided into two groups: one that received an AI model documentation and one that did not. The survey measured perceived transparency, trust in the AI system and symbolic adoption. Statistical analysis showed that providing AI model documentation did not significantly increase perceptions of transparency. However, strong positive correlations were found between transparency and trust (path coef.=0.724, 0.629), and between trust and symbolic adoption (0.763, 0.581) in both groups. While the results suggest that AI model documentation alone may not increase the perceived transparency, promoting transparency is essential for building trust and foster AI adoption in viticulture.
