The study aimed to adopt a non-invasive and non-destructive method to automatically detect cacao swollen shoot virus (CSSV) by using ultraviolet to shortwave infrared range (UV-SWIR) spectral information in real time. The hyperspectral data of cacao plants was collected to analyse underlying intricate patterns in the acquired spectral signatures. Mexican hat wavelet with selective scales was used to decompose the spectra due to its resemblance with vegetation absorption characteristics. The extracted wavelet coefficients were then processed by a 3-layered convolutional neural network (CNN) to classify diseased and healthy cacao samples with an accuracy of 88%.
