Variable-rate strategies require knowledge of plant growth over space and time. This study aimed to describe spatio-temporal variability of a steep vineyard, identify drivers of variability and assess seasonal changes in plant performance. It was undertaken in 2020–2022 in a 1.31 ha vineyard. Highresolution vigour maps were acquired each year at full canopy while nine additional maps were collected from spring 2022 and throughout the season using a multi-parameter proximal sensing system. According to the 2020 acquisition, high (HV) and low (LV) vigour zones were identified and subjected to ground-truthing. Canopy temperature, soil temperature and water potential were measured over season while canopy growth and physiological behaviour were monitored in parallel. Seasonal maps showed a shift in vigour-index pattern due to the variation of soil properties and micro-climatic conditions resulting in a vigour inversion after blooming. Guidelines for variable vineyard management can be defined accordingly.
