Water scarcity challenges Mediterranean agriculture, where irrigation consumes most water resources. Within the DATI project, 238 farmers and 52 policymakers across Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Italy, and France were surveyed on irrigation practices, smart technology adoption, and barriers to implementation. Farmers identified water scarcity, initial investment costs, limited awareness, and inadequate training as key challenges, while policymakers emphasized the need for improved inter-agency coordination and enhanced infrastructure. Nevertheless, farmers expressed strong interest in adopting smart irrigation, emphasizing the need for targeted policies, financial incentives, and comprehensive training. This study offers actionable insights to enhance stakeholder collaboration and advance sustainable irrigation.
