Plant protection product precision application (PPA) has the potential to lower exposure for humans and the environment across the field or landscape scale which may reduce risk. Accordingly, a conceptual approach for how PPA could be accounted for in the different areas of risk assessment required for registering plant protection products in Europe is presented by the European Precision Application task Force (EUPAF). The risk assessment needs to acknowledge both the lower total exposure and potential impacts upon diverse risk assessments when moving away from assumptions based on uniform application methods.
