Innovation is a key component in the development of sustainable and resilient agricultural systems. The shift from innovative technologies to a broader definition that includes the transformation of processes in agriculture has become increasingly important over the years. However, innovation should be inclusive and also involve small-scale farms that are the backbone of European agriculture. One way to introduce organisational changes in farms is to democratise innovations and make them accessible to smallholder farmers. The examined case study of the SAPOS spatial referencing services in Germany is a good example of how small farms can access innovative agricultural digital solutions.
