Understanding how farmers make decisions about new sustainable technologies is essential for wider adoption. This study examined Bavarian farmers (n=41) that are early adopters of the Farmdroid FD20, a robot for sowing and hoeing, by applying Rogers’ five-stage innovation-decision process. The results show that 93% of the surveyed FD20 users are involved in organic farming, mainly sugar beet (98%). These early adopters are mostly well educated, interested in technology, pragmatic and satisfied with the performance and benefits of the innovation. The relatively high adoption rate highlights the promising potential of robots to support organic farming practices in Bavaria.
