Remote sensing with UAVs provides high-resolution data to track in-season N uptake, enhancing the understanding of N dynamics in the fertilizer-plant-soil system. In a field trial, three organic fertilizers – slurry (SLU), anaerobically digested slurry (SLA), and solid digestate (SD) – were compared to a mineral (MIN) and zero-N control (NON) over two seasons. Weekly multispectral drone flights monitored crop’s N dynamics. Organic fertilizers showed higher NDRE values prefertilization due to residual effects, while MIN showed the highest post-fertilization increase. Remote sensing demonstrated potential for optimizing nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) by tracking N release dynamics of fertilizers and synchronizing with crop N demand.
