Proximal soil sensing is increasingly applied in digital soil mapping, but few studies address the complementarity of sensing approaches. This study assessed the complementarity of four sensing techniques (apparent electrical conductivity (ECa), magnetic susceptibility (MS), X-ray fluorescence (pXRF), and visible-near-infrared (VNIR)) for soil clay content and soil chemical quality index through (multi)collinearity analysis. ECa, MS, and some selected VNIR bands were redundant. Both multiple linear regression and random forest showed that maintaining only the complementary variables preserves RMSE. Furthermore, mapping results were compared through kriging with external drift, testing complementary sensors as covariates. Selected pXRF channels, VNIR bands, and MS_lab were identified as complementary sensors to be applied together.
