Abstract

As a philosopher of education, I think of my task as a respondent to Part 1, “Theories of Critical Thinking,” is to describe, interpret, and critique each chapter, and that is what I aim to do. Potential readers may be coming from very different perspectives and interests, as graduate students, scholars, teacher educators, practitioners, and even undergraduate students. I try to keep these potential readers in mind. All of us, as contributing authors in this section, share in common with the co-editors of this book that we have contributed to the journal Inquiry: Critical Thinking across the Disciplines. That common ground serves as my guide. I invite readers to join us in what I describe as a quilting party (Thayer-Bacon, 2000).
