Does the cholesterol in an egg have such an overriding importance to lower the egg consumption by 176 eggs since 1945? The consumption of eggs peaked in 1945 when 421 eggs were consumed per capita per year compared to 246 in 2011. Eggs per capita started to decline in 1946 and continued until 1999 when it leveled off to an average of 246 per capita per year
