A preliminary database of vineyard yield statistics has been established between Australian and French collaborators to improve the global understanding of vineyard yield variation. Classical statistics, variogram parameters, Cambardella Index and the Opportunity Index parameters were used to analyse the yield data for varietal, regional and continental differences. Regional differences were observed but continental or varietal differences were not. The opportunity for precision viticulture management appears similar for Australian and European production systems although the driving forces for differential management appear to be different.
