Proper placement and accurate metering of fertilizer material are primary goals of variable-rate application technology. In order to achieve precise dry granular fertilizer placement, it is necessary to study the dynamic behavior of the hydraulic circuit components that control these processes. A study on the dynamic behavior of the flow control valve of the hydraulic system of a commercial spreader for citrus application was performed. The response of this valve was found to be linear to the command signal within the rated load. There was an inherent delay in response of the valve to the command. A hysteresis effect was observed when the valve was subjected to cycles of alternating open and close commands.
