This paper describes a real-time multi-spectral soil sensor using a combination of optical filters and photodiodes. Soil absorbance collected in nine wavelengths was correlated with varying measurement distance between the fiber optic probes and the furrow bottom. Using a partial least squares regression technique with differential soil absorbance, moisture content was calibrated with R² of 0.76 and SEC of 2.50 % for Andisol, though soil organic matter content was not usually calibrated. An 8-wavelength regression model was unstable in estimating soil moisture content, while a 4-wavelength regression model showed less variation in contribution coefficients of absorbance at respective wavelengths.
