Abstract

This chapter discusses the key points of attention and potential challenges when researching restorative justice initiatives in a police context. Based on the author’s experience with researching offenders’ access to the national, police-based Danish Victim-Offender Mediation (vom) programme, it is discussed how police organisation frameworks and logics might impact research access as well as research findings. Some of the challenges in this regard can be viewed as related to police research at large. Yet, in the author’s experience the ideally more impartial view on the parties in an offence generally connoting restorative justice can augment these challenges, as this view can be seen as conflicting with the generally more binary victim-offender oriented practice of policing.
