Peter F. Surai
started his studies at Kharkov University, Ukraine, where he obtained his Ph.D. and D.Sc. in biochemistry studying effects of antioxidants on poultry. Later he became Professor of Human Physiology. In 1994 he moved to Scotland to continue his antioxidant related research and in 2000 he was promoted to a full Professor of Nutritional Biochemistry at the Scottish Agricultural College. Later, he also has been awarded Honorary Professorships in 7 universities in various countries, including UK, Hungary, Bulgaria, Russia and Ukraine. He has more than 980 research publications, including 360 papers in peer-reviewed journals and 76 chapters in various books. He also is an author of several books related to roles of Se in nutrition, including Selenium in Nutrition and Health, 2006, Selenium in Poultry Nutrition and Health, 2018 and Selenium in Pig Nutrition and Health, 2021. He successfully transferred the vitagene concept of stress adaptation from medical sciences into poultry and animal sciences reflected in his recent books Vitagenes in Avian Biology and Poultry Health, 2020 and Silymarin Puzzle, 2023. For the last 25 years he has been lecturing all over the world visiting more than 70 countries.
