Abstract

Despite the substantial number of burials dated between the 4th and 7th c. discovered in Scythia Minor, a systematic approach of the mortuary data is still missing. This paper aims to address this knowledge gap. After providing a brief historical narrative, the available archaeological record and the current state of research are discussed, together with major topics such as the mortuary landscape and the diverse burial practices documented in the Lower Danube province during the Late Roman and Early Byzantine periods.
