Abstract

Using a human rights-based approach, this chapter analyses the impact of business activities on childrenâs socio-economic rights (SERs) in Africa. It examines the international legal obligation of businesses towards childrenâs SERs drawn from the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (African Childrenâs Charter) and other human rights instruments. Furthermore, it analyses the contribution of the African Childrenâs Charter in protecting childrenâs SERs from the activities of businesses. The chapter concludes with recommendations for ensuring corporate accountability for childrenâs SERs.
