Abstract

This chapter gives an overview of almost a hundred years of live music production for radio drama in the Netherlands, beween 1924 and 2020. Not only high art forms such as literature, theatre and opera contributed to the development of radio drama as a multidisciplinary genre, but also light music stage formats such as (silent) cinema, vaudeville and revue. Authors, radio drama directors, composers, musicians and technicians collaborated using the available technical resources to stretch the acoustic and sound dimensions of the radio plays.
