Abstract

This article analyzes the historical roots, mechanisms, and ecological consequences of globalization. Due to the expansion of living matter (the so-called pressure of life), globalization is realized through various forms of nature management, is accompanied by profound transformations of the natural environment, and is a natural stage in the development of human society. As the extensive path of development is exhausted, the degree of this transformation of the habitat increases sharply. To date, the biosphere has become a single living space for the human population, transforming both externally and in the very essence of the processes that take place within it. Some of the consequences of globalization are perceived positively (the cultivation of landscapes, protection of nature, achievements in science, and reductions in aggressiveness and competition in human society), and some negatively (the pollution of almost all natural environments, invasions, and extinction of species). The negative aspects of nature management give rise to the activation of nature conservation, which has taken on a global character and is improved thanks to developments in science. The concentration of populations in the course of globalization has caused changes in behavior, as well as the increased spread of diseases (epidemics) and special “diseases of civilization.” All these processes are the result of the intensification of nature management and the development of the biosphere, for which man at this stage of globalization has become the most powerful factor in accelerating evolution.
