Acknowledgments
I am grateful to many people who supported me during the writing and editing of this book while I was concurrently healing from cancer. First and foremost, my parents, Dr. Marvin and Ms. Betty Regier Wasser, my first, last, and most important teachers. Although they died a decade ago, their wise counsel rings always in my mind as I write. My brothers and sisters-in-law supported me in so many ways. A special thanks to my brother Jim who imparted his unfailing enthusiasm and encouragement. Dr. Myriam Torres gave me the confidence I needed to attempt to write scholarly works, and Dr. Pierre Orelus paved the way for this to happen. I am grateful beyond words to kind and compassionate editors Evelien van der Veer, Henriët Graafland, and Jolanda Karada. Your patience, knowledge, and many kindnesses got me through the editing of this book at a very difficult time in my life. A thousand thanks. My medical team deserves a big bow. They have no idea how much their healing skills surfaced in my ability to follow through with this work. Lastly, but importantly, I thank my beloved students of all ages and stripes for showing me how enthusiastically narrative writing is embraced when personal stories are encouraged and honored. May they keep telling and valuing them. They and you matter.
