Abstract

This chapter focuses on figurines from northern Moab the religious practices of the Iron Age peoples of central Jordan. After reviewing cultic repertoire from recent excavations in Moab, with a focus on Khirbet al-Mudayna, the chapter investigates the symbolism of a horse and rider depicted on an ivory scarab and the large number of horse figurines found at Khirbat al-Mudayna as evidence for the worship of Astarte in central Jordan.
