Abstract

In an attempt to model a site-specific archaeological approach to Judean Pillar Figurines, this chapter uses archaeological data from Jerusalem to test dominant interpretations and to suggest a more nuanced approach to figurine ritual in the Judean capital. First summarizing the most common interpretations applied to the JPFs, the chapter then explores various aspects of Jerusalem archaeology to test the validity of current interpretations and to highlight the importance of the figurine production industry and regional variability.
