Abstract

Chapter 6 situates this book as a contribution to the intercultural paradigm of pastoral theology, particularly its commitment to postcolonializing pastoral theology and care. This book contributes to the larger field of pastoral care and theology by clarifying resisting as a contemporary goal of pastoral care for all people, deepening the intercultural paradigm as relevant and urgent postcolonializing pastoral care for all people, and using a practical theological method that considers practices of life to be the testing ground for academic theories. Together, the previous five chapters offer five practices of attention. In the following sections, I (1) situate this book within pastoral care as attention to a first question, what are you going through, (2) sketch a brief historical trajectory of resistance in pastoral care and theology, (3) summarize the book’s method of multiple belonging, (4) situate the book within the intercultural paradigm of pastoral care, (5) show its intended contribution to postcolonializing, (6) describe how these field developments support a larger practical theological commitment to live and test theories and theologies in the messiness of everyday human life, and (7) place this book in a larger trajectory of decolonizing theological education.
