Abstract

Since higher education (HE) is regarded as the engine of development in the new world economy and since universities and other higher education institutions (HEIs)s are considered to be the engine of national development, the quality development approach is essential to the effect that the work of educational development involves initiating and managing three major areas: academic development, learning development, and quality development. This chapter recapitulates the content of the book whose overall scope has discussed perspectives under two subheadings; namely, Quality Assurance Processes and Trends in Higher Education, and Higher Education and Sustainable Development. The chapter reiterates the perennial call for Quality in Every Single Task (QUEST) and an advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as heightened by this book that has endeavoured a contribution towards the “how” of developing and enhancing the quality of HE to the specificities of an African context taking into account but without being subsumed by what is alien. The chapter advances that not in the least would any discourse on quality stances in HE in Africa be substantive without a close look into the SDGs; alongside which the African Agenda 2063 ought to be implemented, and both of which should be set as a framework for realigning the missions of HEIs in the continent.
