Abstract

Quality Assurance (QA) assimilates the process of attaining world-class status which, to attain. requires definite resources of financial, knowledge and human capability to implement desired quality standards. The world-class universities ranked in developed countries have different experiences and orientations operating in varied environments. Thus it has been impractical to benchmark with the universities in developing countries. For instance, Africa and Tanzania, in particular face challenges of development issues on the other hand, achieving standards of developed countries have lacked a consistency model fitting for both emerging and existing universities. A case from an institution of higher learning in Tanzania highlights its experience as a research-intensive university operating to serve post-graduate studies while being assessed as a teaching university. Strategically the university addresses its challenges to meet quality issues using its business operating model that guides to deliver and to meet the expectations of its clients and community in line with sustainable development goals (SDGs), and these practices anticipate in the long term the attainment of a world-class status.
