Abstract

In this chapter, Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) is applied to examine and integrate findings from neuroscience studies in mathematics education. Neuroscience studies in mathematics education were searched in Web of Science and Scopus. As a result of the LDA analysis, it was seen that the studies could be analyzed under five headings. These headings can be categorized as “education and research”, “academic performance and arithmetic skills”, “children and numbers”, “mathematics and learning”, and “cognition and reasoning”. Additionally, when the word cloud that emerged with text mining is examined, it is seen that it overlaps with the words grouped under the headings in the 5-heading model. Correlations between words were also examined, revealing, for example, a high correlation between reasoning and problem-solving, as well as between tasks and arithmetic. In addition, a high correlation was found between neuroscience and geometry. In future studies, a more comprehensive classification of mathematics and neuroscience can be made by including articles in other search indexes.
