Abstract

In this chapter we describe the development of a novel creativity framework specifically designed for STEM education that comprises four interrelated elements: problem solving, critical thinking, innovative ideation, and cognitive flexibility. The parameters of the framework and its individual elements are then explored through a series of semi-structured interviews with STEM-area teachers. Creativity is a task-specific construct that exhibits wide-ranging characteristics contingent on the application area; however, there is currently little consensus on how creativity can be defined within STEM learning environments. In line with the cross-disciplinary nature of STEM, respondents presented wide-ranging interpretations of STEM creativity.
