Abstract

Employing an autoethnographic methodology, the chapter explores the author’s personal journey as a migrant woman in STEM education and career. Through this narrative, it examines broader systemic and institutional barriers that migrant women face, such as racial and cultural biases, and discusses the importance of mentorship and community support in overcoming these challenges. The chapter further evaluates the impact of deficit narratives in STEM and advocates for strength-based approaches that celebrate female success and leadership. By weaving together personal experiences and existing literature, it provides insights into the complex interplay of gender, race, and culture in shaping the experiences of migrant women in STEM education and work. Finally, the chapter invites stakeholders within the STEM community, from educators and policymakers to fellow researchers, to rethink how diversity is integrated and nurtured in these spaces.
