Abstract

New daily conditions, social and technological developments, and the modern way of life call for the development of skills of critical thinking and collaboration both in students’ personal, social and professional life. Therefore, it seems to be important to incorporate the cultivation of these skills to school children. One such example is the flipped classroom model, which saves valuable teaching time that is then utilized in student-centred activities. The purpose of this study is to measure the effectiveness of the flipped classroom model in the development of collaboration skills through the “Social and Political Education” course in Year 6, as this course aims to develop teamwork and students’ participation in the multicultural and democratic society. Two primary school classes participate, and appropriate digital, interactive material is designed on the e-me digital platform, where students have their home study before the lesson. The methodology applied is action research. The validity and reliability of the present study are enhanced by its methodological triangulation. From the first results it seemed that, the students’ participation increased, their academic performance improved, and they requested more collaborative activities.
